Past Projects
South Seas Resort Mangrove Restoration:
The summer of 2004 and 2005 will be long remembered in Florida because of Charley, Frances, Ivan, Jeanne, Katrina and Wilma. The South Seas Resort on the north end of Captiva Island experienced 145 mile winds and higher gusts from Hurricane Charley. The majority of mangrove wetlands on South Seas property suffered significant damage. KLECE is working with the resort to restore the quality and function of this valuable Florida habitat.
Wetlands and the Tsunami:
Wetlands International is a leading non-profit organization dedicated solely to the crucial work of wetland conservation and sustainable management. Kevin Erwin is the Chair of Wetland International's Wetland Restoration Specialist Group and a member of the Board of Directors. He has moderated a forum to provide technical assistance in restoring coastal habitats.
Florida Gulf Coast University:
KLECE was an integral part of the FGCU design team commissioned in 1991 to develop a Campus Master Plan that was “in harmony with the land’s natural characteristics.” KLECE was responsible for most of the design, permitting wetland restoration, exotic plant species removal, upland preservation, and construction observation. KLECE was also responsible for much of the Landscape Architecture elements in the entry and on the campus of FGCU.
Lee County Port Authority:
KLECE served as the general environmental consulting for the Lee County Port Authority from 1998 to 2003. KLECE managed issues including permitting, habitat management, restoration, and wildlife.
